How to migrate from Zuora Subscribe and Amend to Orders
They say that change is the only constant in life, and that is especially true for e-commerce. Zuora users were recently faced with a big shift in how they run subscription commerce when Zuora announced the end of life for Subscribe and Amend.
Zuora users will now need to move from Subscribe and Amend to the more modern Orders object model and APIs. This shift has caused some confusion for Zuora users as they work to manage the switch.
In this post, we will run through when the change is happening and how to make the switch simple (spoiler alert: use Limio for Zuora!)
When do you need to switch to Orders?
Zuora recently announced that it will discontinue support for the Subscribe and Amend object model and APIs. As of February 16, 2026, this object model will not be developed or enhanced further, and the company will stop all product support, including bug fixes and addressing security issues.
While this offers plenty of time to switch from Subscribe and Amend to Orders, Zuora recommends that users switch as soon as possible. This will ensure they can benefit from a a more modern platform, regular updates, and new features as Orders continues to evolve.
Orders will still create contractual agreements between merchants and customers, making things easy for subscription businesses. Businesses can also use Orders to access both existing functions for subscription and billing management, as well as new features on Zuora billing.
Businesses offering subscription commerce alongside regular e-commerce will also benefit by being able to offer customers a more streamlined experience. Customers will now be able to create multiple subscriptions, subscription amendments, and purchase non-subscription items without needing to navigate multiple purchasing experiences.
How to move from Subscribe and Amend to Orders
The bad news for Zuora Subscribe and Amend users is that the switch to Orders is quite complex. Here are the steps required to make the switch:
Complete training
Zuora has an incredible wealth of in-depth resources available to their users, including Zuora University.
To prepare for the switch, users need to take the ‘Zuora Orders: An Introduction’ and ‘Orders Harmonization’ courses on Zuora University. This will give you everything you need to know about Orders, including Orders Harmonization, Full Orders, Order Metrics, and other related features so you can jump right into the new system.
To access these courses, enter the Access Code: zuorderupgrade18, enter all other information and click ‘Sign Up’.
Enable Orders
To enable Zuora Orders, you can do it via the self-serve UI or submit a request to Zuora Global Support. They will then enable Orders in your API Sandbox tenant.
Check prerequisites
Before fully switching to Orders, you need to ensure you meet the relevant prerequisites and use Zuora's suggested workarounds for any limitations. Once they have enabled Orders, the Zuora support agent will help you check for the most common prerequisites.
Migrate APIs
The APIs you use will change as Subscribe and Amend is phased out. If you are using Subscribe and Amend SOAP, CRUD, or REST APIs, you will need to fully transition your systems to Orders APIs. In particular, you will have to re-integrate all your commercial channels, such as your ecommerce store, your purchasing flows, and self-service actions with the new Order APIs.
Test integrations
If any of your integrations use the Subscribe and Amend API, it is important to verify and re-test each one in the API Sandbox with the new order API.
Enable in Production
You will need to submit a request to Zuora Global Support so they can enable Orders in your Production Copy Environment. Just like the API Sandbox tenant, the support agent will help you check the limitation checklist for your PCE tenant, and workarounds are available.
Migrate historical data
If you wish, you can migrate historical data to Orders. This process can take a while, and it is recommended that you perform migration during times of low activity when possible, especially when dealing with large subscription numbers.
