What are subscription reminder notices?

The written warnings fans must get before certain renewal payments.

Limio F.C. renewal reminder email showing reminder notices

TL;DR

Reminder notices are written notices telling the consumer that a renewal payment is coming and how to stop it. They're needed before a concessionary period ends, roughly every six months on rolling contracts, and twice (an earlier one plus another) before renewals of 12 months or more.

What does “Reminder notices” mean?

When reminders are needed:

  • Rolling contracts (weekly, monthly, quarterly): roughly once every six months, before the last renewal payment in each six-month period.
  • Renewals of 12 months or more: a reminder plus an additional, earlier reminder before each renewal.
  • Concessionary periods: before the first payment at the higher price.

Each notice must be in writing on a durable medium (email, letter, SMS or WhatsApp, but not a vanishing in-app pop-up), make its purpose obvious (for example in the email subject line), and present the required information more prominently than anything else. That information includes the renewal amount and date, the previous amount and any increase, the minimum total due, and how and by when to end the contract. The timing must match what was stated in the key pre-contract information and give the consumer a reasonable time to decide.

How does it relate to football membership?

An auto-renewing annual membership or season ticket needs two reminders before every renewal. Clubs already send renewal campaigns, but these notices have legal content and prominence requirements, and missing one gives the member a right to cancel and potentially a refund. Reminders can include marketing, such as an upgrade offer, as long as the required information is more prominent.

How Limio helps

Limio knows each member's renewal date, price and any price change, so clubs can trigger reminder notices from live subscription data rather than spreadsheets, with a direct link to manage or end the membership in the fan's account.

This is a plain-English summary of the subscription rules in Part 4, Chapter 2 of the DMCCA and the draft Consumer Subscription Contracts (Cancellation and Information) Regulations 2026, based on the draft government guidance published in October 2026. The regulations are still subject to parliamentary approval. It is not legal advice.
